I disagree. I think Valve willing to pull the mod store (for now at least) and admitting some fault at least shows they are willing to listen to the community which is a lot more then what you’ll see from other businesses. I can’t fault a company for trying something new, and taking ownership when it doesn’t work out.

That’s not it at all. The issue wasn't offering compensation for the modded work, but rather the poor system put in place by Valve to monetize the modding community with out putting adequate safe guards for IP protection, mod collaboration, and fair compensation.

Why not just make chat optional and allow the user to decide? Tie it back to parental controls so that when enabled, voice chat is automatically disabled unless a passkey is entered.
