Well, the class itself is designed around the theme of home. Basically, "home" allowed me to shoehorn The Odyssey, Gone Home, Fun Home, and House of Leaves into one course, so I jumped on it.
My interest in Gone Home is that it first asks what a home really is and what purpose it serves. (Can you come home to a place…
You seem to rely on sarcasm here to make your point.
Hell, yeah! English pride!
I'm going to be teaching Gone Home in my L204 Intro to Fiction class here in a couple weeks. I'm pretty excited about it.
Anyway, it's amazing what a little face-time can for people who don't agree. It's also pretty horrifying what isolation can do.
Yes, yes. Yes. I got so tired of reading about inchoate kickstarter projects that were certainly fascinating but just unavailable.
Wii U = $300

Every rave in college.
Not even embarrassed.
Even the music is an allusion. How badly do they need to take it out of its major key, though?
Metroid is strange and mournful and alone.*

Gonna have to give this one to @pkollar
GG everybody!
I was going to write the exact same thing. I only agree with like 30% of what she has to say, but this shit is absurd.
You can say a lot of things about the woman, but you can't accuse her of cowardice.
Ok, yeah. I can appreciate that.
Misguided, perhaps, but why dishonest? Why immediately analyze her motivation? Can't she simply be wrong, or does she also have to be evil?
Sarkeesian's critics do this to her, too, accusing her of being greedy. Accusations like that short circuit thoughtful engagement.
I've found there to be a greater diversity of thought on Kotaku than on sites like Gawker or Jezebel where most people tend to agree.
I find that I've got an affinity with hardcore gamers and none at all with casual gamers.
I mean, put me next to a hardcore gamer, and we're instant friends. Not so with a casual. For me, casual/hardcore is a meaningful distinction, though it sounds like it's really not for you.
Ha! Great point. And yet here I am, watching this video and Sarkeesian's. I think the problem is people like me who give ear-time to non-gamers talking about gaming.
Or I could blame the media ;p
There aren't a lot of female voices out there that say, "It's okay to be a man. It's okay for men to congregate with other men." From what I've seen, women who talk about gaming seem to want to express their justified disapproval of the very grotesque things that a minority of men do. And I really appreciated her…
For me, pocketing means to take something and store it for later use. That's what I thought the article meant to communicate (which, pls nerf) till I read the comments.
In this case, I guess I'd use "eat," but even that's a problem. "Mario ate a Falcon Punch" sounds like he get wrecked, not like he negated it. I guess…
