I'm against schools providing free lunches (you mentioned "healthy lunches" as though they are district provided). Sports teams should also be the financial responsibility of the family, not the district. And, frankly, I'm against schools paying for books that kids destroy and become quickly outdated as well.

My point is that if every aspiring student got a free education, it would devalue the education and the money it cost for that education. There would be too many college educated adults and not enough jobs requiring college education.

No used books. Instead of selling 1 set of books every 5-6 years to a high school for classroom distribution, they sell a set every year to the students. In elementary and high school, I used to carry around ALL of my textbooks all day to and from school. It just wasn't practical to keep them in a locker or leave them at home. An iPad would have been very useful not just for books, but for note taking, scheduling assignments and tests.
