I see that recommended all the time (horizontal slices), but I never do it. If I want smaller diced onion, I just space the vertical slices closer together. With a sharp knife I can get very small pieces with no horizontal slices. It always seemed odd to me to cut horizontally when it's already separated that way.

Not all. I think all walmarts have stopped selling hand guns. The three in my town don't sell any guns (except BB and airsoft), but do sell ammo. Honestly...I've seen a lot of rifles at other walmarts, but never of the AR15 variety. I didn't know any carried them.
