Oh god yes, it's an excellent game with an amazing soundtrack, and the deeper you get into the story, the better it gets. However, make no mistake, this game is set at the very end of humanity, and the triumph, set against that fact, is rather sad.

That happened to me too, at first, but when I got into the rhythm of it, it stopped happening. You kinda have to shift, let the action take place, then hit the shift just as the animation finishes up. Believe it or not, you can even do it in time with the music and it plays beautifully.
