To add to the confusion, the automotive journalists here in the US started referring to the smaller, car based SUVs as "Cute Utes" many years ago. As already stated, "Ute" is being used as a shortened version of a "Sport Utility Vehicle".

Honestly I would have rather had them pull an old name than to pull some name out of a hat. I don't mind the Dart name. Plus, unless you are either a gearhead or owned one in the past, nobody really knows the history with the Dart nameplate.
