One issue with protective gear, helmets, and pads are that you are more protected, but others are going to hit you harder, because you’re protected, thus possibly leading to more, and more severe, injuries especially in the long term.

Is passing on the right legal in the states? In Sweden, passing is allowed on the left only, which makes behaviour like that of the first left-lane car very annoying.

Oh god yes. I mean I can get behind some of the physical aspects of the game, even if I’d find it perfectly acceptable with hockey as a non-contact sport as well, but I think there’s a pretty wide and obvious line between checking and blocking someone with your body, and what essentially amounts to brawls or assaults.
