Jezebel has been following this story for a while. The writer didn’t spot the word “rape” in the source material and think “Ooooh, now there’s some raw meat for the commenters!”

You are projecting a lot on a very neutral and straight-forward headline, friend.
No. The story about the false rape accusation was reported on Jez when it originally happened. So it makes sense to report on this interview. In addition, here is a man who was falsely accused of rape but still takes the time to express empathy for women who are raped and discomfort at the thought of his story being…
I’m not sure I’m sensing any snark from Aimée. We may be projecting our own expectations onto this headline, lol.
I think we’ve all been so trained by headlines to feel something along the lines of outrage and/or snark that we’re reading into some intent by the author that may not actually be there.
How “tall” is Witherspoon? Four-foot ten?
A really good rule of thumb is “Would you want someone from the opposing political party to have Powers X, Y and Z as president? No? Then don’t grant them to a president from your own party.”
The phrase “permanent majority” is the bullet with democracy’s number stamped on its side.
That’s why they spent 8 years screaming “OMG, divisive dictator!” at every little thing Obama did (remember the sheer outrage when he expressed sympathy for Trayvon Martin’s family?). Now, every time they are deliberately decisive and anti-democratic they scream “But Obama did it first!” (when he didn’t they just…
I think it’s even more insidious than “basically, Republicans want a REPUBLICAN dictator.” I think it’s cis-male, white, hetero that they want. Imagine if they swapped out 45's name with Ben Carson. Or Carly Fiorina.
I am so angry at these Trumpers. So, so angry at their hypocrisy and just plain ugliness. I DON’T LIKE BEING THIS ANGRY!
That’s the fundamental difference between them and us, right? We don’t love the idea of the GOP getting a turn to run the show, but as long as they don’t try to be too evil, we’re willing to tolerate it - provided they let us have our turn when the pendulum swings back in our direction.
It’s not really a surprise to anyone, is it? This is pretty much the obvious destination of the path Newt Gingrich put the Republican Party on back in the 1990s, when he sold Republicans on the idea that governmental dysfunction could be used to “defeat” the Democrats and earn a permanent Republican majority. That…
Let’s be really, really real, here.
Thank Ganesh someone remembered the men.
Yeah, I read both Parable books in early January this year and damn was that spooky.
Oh gosh yes. That book was prescient and plausible and now terrifying. But it ended with some hope. Now Talents....I can’t...I just can’t.
That’s such an amazing book but I think I wouldn’t be able to handle watching it until the real world stops feeling like a prequel to the Parable books.
If she does Parable of the Sower I will lose it.
Seriously. I teared up, too. I’ve been wanting to see Butler’s work get greater prominence and DuVernay seems like a great fit.
