Yep, that's the line I didn't get. Thank you for explaining!
Ok, I guess I misunderstood your comment.
I think I see what you're saying, but I really don't think this is about women in those countries being pressured for some gender-related reason. I can only speak for India & Pakistan, but ALL children (at least the ones with access to education) there are expected to go into science. In fact, most of them want to…
Good point. Would we really want the world to judge us solely based on an episode of Rush Limbaugh's show or one of Ann Coulter's "books?" The media tends to exclusively focus on the worst of Muslim-kind and doesn't give any context. Frankly, I don't think the average American could come up with one positive or even…
Many Muslim women in predominantly Muslim countries don't wear head coverings. It would depend on which country you're talking about.
The Taliban has been attacking women with acid in the UK? Wow, they really get around.

So I just got a really hateful reply that I dismissed because of its violent/triggering nature, but I will address their main problem with me: They seemed to think I was telling Sriracha Enthusiast not to be concerned about rape in India, which was not my intention and I really don't think my comment says that…
Dude, I get how you're feeling and I'm glad that you're concerned about this important issue, but please don't project this onto your own identity and certainly don't buy into the notion that we in the West are morally superior. India doesn't have a monopoly on misogyny, far from it. Horrific gang-rapes happen in the…
"I took a seminar in law school on mass tort litigation, and one of the things that stuck with me was that a LOT of products liability cases revolve around items manufactured for and marketed to women."
Just got wind of this article over in Groupthink and thought you might appreciate it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/jan/01/delhi-rape-damini
LOL it's called an arranged marriage and it's not nearly as shocking or tragic as you seem to think. Educate yourself.
Good question, thanks for engaging in this discussion with me! This new research on hormone levels and toy choice is interesting, but it would be a huge stretch to use this to conclude anything about gender roles in humans. The Atlantic article really twisted the study to fit its own argument. I got more from reading…

If you're slumping in a chair for a long period of time, you are putting stress on your body, or at least on your spine, which is primarily what posture refers to. I'm not a physician, but that's what I understood from Wiki-ing posture. Whatever, agree to disagree I guess.
A good posture is the posture that puts the least stress on your body. The posture of a person in heels might be alluring for you, but it is putting stress on the wearer's body.
