Future hypothetical victims? This recall started some years *after* the company would have been liquidated. If you can see the future, what are you doing wasting your time commenting here? ;)

Oh, I get it, you’re trolling and don’t care about things like facts and reality. The millions of cars that GM is replacing the ignition switch on, the unlimited compensation fund paid for by GM which is paying out claims, those things don’t matter and don’t exist. Got it.

Yes, and you’re the one thinking it. WTF, dude?

Let me spell it out for you: GM is fixing the affected cars and paying for the victims compensation fund, neither of which would happen if they went out of business 5 years ago.

Again, read the article.

All of those bad officers *did* get fired, and the union fought to get the bad officers their jobs back. You are working very hard to not say that the union is a problem in this case (which it clearly is). When officers know that they can do whatever they want and face zero consequences because of their union, clearly

You didn’t answer the question. How would GM going out of business during the financial crisis help the owners of the defective cars, or those injured by that defect?

Read the article I linked to. Philly’s police chief is Charles Ramsay, who used to be the police chief of Washington DC and is a serious professional and reformer. The city very much wants bad officers gone; they’ve paid out millions of dollars in settlements to victims of police misconduct.

You carefully avoided answering the question. Try again.

Not really, hence my reply. What would you call unions like the Philly police union, that defend bad union members at all costs and have a 90% success rate in getting their jobs back - usually with full benefits and back pay! - after those officers were fired for committing crimes and/or misconduct?

How would GM going out of business 5 years ago during the financial crisis help the owners of the now-recalled cars, or the victims and their families?

Do you think that the courts should follow the rule of law?

There is a world of difference between defending a legitimate grievance and defending a legitimately bad employee at all costs that is clearly at fault and deserves to be suspended or terminated. The Philly police union has been terrible about this, for example, and it undermines any faith residents might have in the

Ha! Yes. Watch what you wish for, you might just get it...

The last carbureted car sold in America was the 1991 crown vic police interceptor with the 5.8 - GM’s last carbureted cars were the 1990 Custom Cruiser/Estate Wagon/Caddy Brougham.

There is a world of difference between towing a 7000 lb trailer that maxes out a van’s rated capability and towing the same trailer with a pickup rated for 12,000 lbs max. Been there, owned that.

The Astro van is long dead, the econoline vans are dead now too. No more body on frame vans, hence the use of pickups for serious towing these days.

Not “automatically” for sure, but the operators of the site certainly aren’t safe from prosecution, even if they’re not directly involved in the illegal commerce their sites facilitate.

That’s a severely out of balance wheel and tire which has been that way for long enough to completely blow out the shock. Seen it, fixed that.

From what I’ve read the ecodiesel motors often don’t get nearly their EPA rated mileage in the real world. FWIW, I got 17 mpg in a far larger, heavier, much higher torque ‘05 Cummins 5.9 Ram 3/4 ton crewcab longbed towing a 1953 Eldorado convertible on a trailer (around 7,500 lbs) from Miami to DC. 15 mpg is poor,
