One tip I would offer to anyone installing from scratch would be to start of with TB 2.something and set up your e-mail accounts the way you want.

I don't know if it's more of a UK thing than a US one but in my house we have an airing cupboard (a cupboard with the hot water tank in and some shelves above it to let clothing/bedding etc completely dry out before being put away).
