@Wibbles: Unfortunately Freud is kind of a pop culture icon for psychology and most people only know this sort of weird, distilled version of his theories.

@lindsaylouhan: I did my undergrad in psych a couple of years ago and he's sort of more an interesting historical figure, there is a lot of discussion of his flawed methods and fallible techniques. He's certainly not considered the pinacle anymore. Or at least he wasn't at my school.

@sarah.of.a.lesser.god (aka Mrs. BrutallyHonestHobbit): I took a serious course of therapy in university and it wasn't until after i signed up that I discovered they were super into psychoanalysis and Freud. Worst 4 months of my life.

@Understater: I'm not sure if I would say a larger stigma or if I would say certain disorders are more stigmatized by gender.
