The two guys don't appear to have worked for the same company she did.

I can totally see why they would both be fired actually, although it really depends on circumstances of why they were at the conference.
Well said. :)
I recommend you not follow your own advice. Taking photos of strangers and publishing negative things about them to several thousand followers on your Twitter account is a REALLY bad idea for a number of reasons, not to mention just an incredibly dickish thing to do. Even if you are "calling out sexism" or whatever…
I don't agree with the attorneys either. There are many examples of situations where a person has been fired for inappropriate use of social media. Just because I work with someone doesn't mean I can publish (and that's what Tweeting is) photos of him or her and write whatever I want. She's actually lucky the dude…
Just don't go Tweeting random photos of people who make a sexual joke and you should be fine. Also, don't get all of your info on this situation from this post. This post is the Lifetime movie version of what happened and not remotely balanced in its presentation.
Bare facts: there are a lot of sexist people on Jezebel.com. Many of them do not feel responsibility or professionalism are legitimate virtues women should embrace, because "bro culture" exists. They generalize bro culture to all men all of the time; women who are okay with it are even lower in stature than the men.…
"After all, Richards was merely reporting harassment to the wider tech community."
Do you really think black men don't face ridiculous double standards and a need to walk a fine line?
That's a great explanation. I had never thought of this. Thanks for sharing.
Her next step: take photos of people making whale dongle jokes and post them to Twitter to publicly shame them.
If we're going to objectify Patrick Chan, I think this photo does a better job (semi NSFW): http://www.thestar.com/sports/skating/2012/01/19/video_figure_skater_patrick_chan_looks_for_any_edge_even_with_pants.html
LOL, well played. Actually this photo is on the sidebar next to this article as I am posting: http://jezebel.com/thighlights/
I'm not sure how the title of this post relates to the content of the study. The study's abstract says:
This made me LOL. :)
I've picked on some of Laura Beck's other articles, but I really enjoyed and agreed with this one. What we can't allow ourselves to do is start seeing Republicans as an immutable "other." Our goals should be real change.
Say what we want about hipster, but IMO they do deserve some credit for creating shelter for people of LBGTQ identities. As a gay man I would rather be surrounded by 100 hipsters than one "authentic" city dweller who is also a homophobe.
Second comment here (I'm bad about that lately). I realized there was another point RE: New Orleans that I wanted to bring up.
No one owns a city based on either heritage or genetics. To say that a group of people can't elect to live downtown because their parents raised them in suburbs as is absurd as saying people who grew up in housing projects can't move to gated communities. The fact is that basing mortgage or apartment approvals on race…
I think you really need some familiarity with New Orleans to understand that in the case of that city the real controlling factor, more than money, is crime. Almost everyone wants to live in downtown New Orleans. But the crime rate outside of the "established" areas is horrifying, the worst in the country.
