In regards to your first paragraph...
What's your view on the argument that trade ins allow people to get credit in order to purchase new games and that the above would make trade in prices lower thereby directly affecting the purchasing of new games. Which is one argument that is banded around... and to be honest is how I purchase most of my new games.

But you see, that's part of my point.. When I had a decent gaming PC (many moons ago) I used to buy boxed copies of games (Half Life Episodes etc).
While I might not like the idea, I assume it would just be a console version of a Steam like service.
In this particular case, Megaupload had copyright material on their servers, when asked to remove they removed links but kept the material knowing full well other links existed which pointed to this material.
Just to mention, part of the accusations seem to be that when Megaupload removed a file which infinged copyright, they didn't actually remove the file but the link, and considering there would be several links to the same file this isn;t really "Deleting the copyright material"
