Imo, it was also a failure in concept and execution. I'm sure there's some people who liked the gameplay, but I never felt that the gamified side and the free-form creative side ever jivved. Plus, the game would basically start barking orders at you, which isn't a lot of fun.

People who play visual novels and complain that they are, in fact, visual novels are so incredibly frustrating. Please go do that to literally any other genre and leave visual novels alone.  It’s ok to just acknowledge that a genre isn’t for you and move along.
