totally agree, compared to the extreme detail the rest of the book gives us for the Universe and whatnot, the ending was abrupt :) still ive read them like 4 times lol good stuff :)
It bugs me mostly because it feels like he could have fleshed it out a bit more and made it make more sense. It felt like he just randomly decided he was done writing. After like 30,000 pages he couldn't have added 20 more to complete the ending? "Nope, just end it here in like 2 paragraphs".

It's not strictly necessary... but since you'd be effectively playing as a mute in a merciless post-apocalyptic world overrun with bandits who do have the capacity to talk (and expect it in return), you will find yourself dying a lot more.
