He is somewhat right, texturing the models does play a huge role in producing these images to such a high standard.

Running Apex Launcher at the moment, definitely one of my favourites, might try out some of the ones mentioned in this article though. Also that wooden theme for the Windows Phone style launcher looks horrible.
