One issue is that whole gap between your eyes and the device. If the thing is not glued to your face, a lot of external light will come in from all directions, blowing the immersion right outta doors.

I use Win7 but am currently testing Win8. I tried a bunch of stuff and the simplest by far is Windows' native Virtual Hard Drive (VHD). I basicaly created a 50GB file inside Win7 and, during Win8 boot installation, pointed to that file as a primary HD.
So you can learn how to properly stand, hold, aim down the sights and pull the trigger of a rifle by simply clicking away on a mouse with your index and middle fingers. Huh, who would've thought..
