That the article explicitly mentions the cost; we see how steep it is, and those reading it realize that said "choice" will, as a result, not be available to everyone.
But if IVF usage is privileged because it costs money, discussing that privilege as a "family planning option" also requires that we acknowledge that women may be forced into it because of a lack of privilege as well (they lack the money, relationship status, etc. for adoption). It also requires that we acknowledge…
Many of those studies controlled for maternal age, though, and still showed a greatly increased risk of ASD - like Down syndrome, it appears to be a largely one-sided problem, at least as far as age-as-causation is concerned.
Where in the article did it say that IVF was free?
The ability to adopt is a privilege, though, too - in many places an even greater one than IVF. Not only does it cost more, the requirements are much more stringent, often that couples be relatively young, relatively wealthy, relatively healthy, and married. These are all privileges on top of the ability to afford the…
Yeah, the paternal age effect doesn't come up anywhere near as often as it should, given that some studies have shown that the children of older fathers are up to five times (!) more likely to have autism (along with a host of other health risks). Yet no one questions their choice to "delay fatherhood", let alone…
You realize that very young women use IVF to treat infertility too, right?
Yeaaaaaaaaah. This. The takeaway message for so many people to the science - that your fertility, i.e. your chances fertilization per cycle, declines rapidly after 35 - seems to be THE DAY YOU TURN 35 YOUR WOMB IS ROTTEN AND YOU WILL BE CHILDLESS FOREVER!!!111
I always seem to have to point this out whenever a post on ART comes up, but adoption in many places is many times more expensive than ART. Where I'm at IVF costs $5K a cycle, and they package three (which will result in pregnancy for the vast majority of women) for $11K. Whereas adoption costs $30-50K in agency fees,…
Jesus H Christ. If that was law where I lived and I wasn't married would never tell a male partner I was pregnant. Ever.
This is complete garbage, sorry. There are plenty of "good" 30-something men who are either single of their own accord because they focused on career building, or are newly divorced, widowed, etc. Just as there are plenty of fine single 30-something older women. Let's not shit on the opposite sex when they pass their…
Maybe not, but that doesn't mean that income is necessarily relevant. Every single acquaintance of mine in the advanced degree-earning, upper middle class bracket who married younger than 25 is now divorced, same as the those with less wealth or earning potential. Early marriage sure does seem to be the kiss of death.
*looks at PhD*
She knows the divorce rate for people who marry at college age is like 90%, right?
Former competitive swimmer here: with all the strap adjustments up on the blocks, and poolside changes, I'm sure hundreds if not thousands of people have already seen my tiny tits at athletic competitions.
Well, I've had the same sized tits since I was 15, not sure you'd want to trade ;p
I imagine those suits are just as tight if not tighter than an athletic compression shirt (which a lot of runners wear). I don't have to wear a sports bra if I have a compression shirt on - most of my pals in the Bcup and under range don't either.
Hahah wow that really takes the cake:
Yeah you're right. I took a closer look and you can still see it around their eyes.
