Yes they absolutely do. It's in their best interest to really. It's a constant cat and mouse battle b/w bmw software and tuners. That's why many refuse to bring them to dealers b/c they don't want the new software that may detect (previous) tuning.

Correct, they always were and will still continue to be. I'm just not sure an article with such common sense had to be written about it.

Can we file this under "no shit"?

It's what Carfax was based on. Cars with paintwork and previous repair will bring less because Carfax puts it right out there in the open and TELLS customers that it's worth less. This started forcing dealers to pay less for cars with previous repair and paintwork.

Gotcha, thanks.

I know this isn't the main point, but isn't is the SRT Viper, formally the Dodge Viper?

they've been going for under $30k for a lil while now :) Bargainn buyy

Yeh most dealers use MMR. Which is a market report of what cars are being sold at for auction. Kind of like a worst case scenario. I tell people that sites like KBB and NADA are close to worthless. Dealers want to know what they are selling for on the wholesale market so they won't lose their ass. (ie when gas price

I'm sorry but the first one. "know what your trade is worth, Carmax will offer you more than a dealer" is an outright lie. Carmax will generally give half of your trade's value. They will end up selling it at one of their own auction houses to car dealers for wholesale prices or less. Since I have many dealer

Lol I know right. I guess hoping for both sides in one article may be asking a bit much.

Not crazy, just seems counter productive that they're so conflicting. Any reason why writers wouldn't work together to form a pros and cons list of sorts? Maybe a situational analysis or something. Just brainstorming :)

Jalopnik is getting more and more like Gawker every day. One day here are reasons why you should never do something. Next day here are reasons why it's OK to do what we said you should never do. Got it. I'm glad I understand how money/financing works enough to make my own decisions.

I've always said the ipad charger charged iphones quicker. A friend wanted to trade me a regular charger for my old ipad brick (to use on his mac) and I told him I was reluctant to give it up b/c it charged faster. Now that I know it will most definitely charge my 6 faster, I'm keeping it ;)

BMW said, and I quote "SMG will make manuals obsolete" O_o Mulligan BMW

Nightmare. I work at a place where I'm constantly being asked if this SMG'd BMW has transmission issues or not. And just about every time, "nope, that's how they made it" is my response after driving it.

Some of the most prominent ones aren't even on that list. Cough Toyota Solara, Lexus RXs Cough.

Love child of FRS/BRZ and Jag F-type??

I know, the onion technique was used to definitively tell by auction houses. The looking under the dash at wires and seat bolts was the "consumer advice."

After Hurricane Katrina hit, the auction giant Manheim along with the NAAA had to come up with a way to spot these flood cars and flag them. The method they used was the onion method. Basically taking all the parts off layer by layer to see how they can tell that these cars have sat in standing water. The way that
