That is pretty much how I ended up seeing it.
I think this is in connection to a servey done recently on rapists, the survery first asked 'have you raped anyone' and the majority said no. But at no point does the author of the article says otherwise. She makes it clear repeatedly that this was rape.
I think her point was not so much that the woman was sending mixed signals, rather that rape culture encourages people to read certain signals the wrong way.
This is odd, because I read the 'nice guy rapist' story and got more the sense that this was a exploration of how rape culture gives the impression that some things 'aren't really rape'. I got the ense (and I could be wrong) that the author wanted to see how someone she'd previously believed had good judgement, could…
