The implication - I'm fairly sure - is that a rape would be the most awful possible introduction to intercourse.

Wait - are they actually affiliated with a school or team?
Some impressive point-missing going on here, it seems: I was laughing at the premise that any random 18-year-old is going to be hyper-attuned to semi-obscure cultural references, many over a half-century-old.
What an odd statement. In fact, it only makes sense if your implication is that college students (or even Barnard/Columbia ones like Stewart) know of Sanmao — or more unlikely still, her mode of death.
Indeed. Which is why I was so struck by her (?) willingness to dictate what may be legitimately considered threatening by others.
"in no way threatening" is excerpted from MrUncool's response. "It" = the asymmetry between woman- and man-splaining, wherein the first is OK and the second is not.
Random guy: "Um, why is it in no way threatening again?"
"Skydrop" as in JMing a cargo/gear drop? Or did you just mean jumping?
Ah, no - but thanks for checking in from whatever parallel universe you occupy.
"Take a hint"? Haha.
"Shared by all"? It shouldn't have to be. I don't think a total-consensus/Kool-aid model is what anyone is shooting for... least of all the site itself.
Tried to provide a little evidence of the stuff getting removed... but that too was quickly removed.
I've seen nearly ten innocuous-to-constructive comments disappear in this thread alone today — all under the "dissenting viewpoints are actually pretty welcome" comment.
This comment to Jenna (below, in quotes) was removed, was copied by another commentator and posted as an example of heavy-handed dismissal, and that comment was removed as well.
One of you should ask Jenna how many comments she's dismissed in response to her "dissenting opinions welcome" comment in this thread.
If you're going to dismiss all the responses to your "dissenting opinions welcome" post, wouldn't it be tidier to just erase the post?
Ah, no - but thanks for checking in from whatever parallel universe you occupy.
That line was based on personal experience, not the article. Thought it was clear from the tone - perhaps not.
The concern is that the NSW community (and SF and PJ communities for that matter) have always been able to set standards internally, with relatively little outside pressure or politically motivated pressure.
It's great viewing even if you have zero interest in the military — just to watch how good the instructors are at creating intense psychological pressure.
