Yup... AWD will get you moving, but it won’t help you turn or stop. AWD gives a lot of drivers a false sense of security.

I’d change “famous” boxer engine to “infamous”.
Correction: Subaru knew it could pander to people’s sense of “I’m a rugged individual”, or their feelings of “I don’t really care what I drive, as long as it’s practical and AWD”, or their satisfaction that a PZEV badge on the back means it’s environmentally friendly even with thoroughly mediocre fuel economy.
While they may have aced the AWD and Turbo classes, they slept right through the Head Gasket Engineering classes and handed in an origami throwing star for the final project.
Happy to report that Pug Muad’Dib Atreides survived and was accepted by the Fremen as one of their own (see left side of frame at :20).
Absolutely agree!
SyFy, not Hallmark, though all those late ‘90s/early ‘00s made for cable genre miniseries have that visual style.
I’d say that the Villeneuve Dune is definitely “superior” in terms of being faithful to the novel, more “grounded,” more of a science fiction story about a young man caught up in a fake Hero’s Journey than a space fantasy about a true Messiah with magic rain powers. But my heart will always belong to the Lynch movie,…
I liked the new scenes but the editing job, which was not approved or overseen by Lynch or his editor Antony Gibbs, is a trainwreck. That’s why both of them had their names taken off the extended cut.
Lynch seems like a pretty methodical guy. Like he wants to get everything that’s in his head down on paper before filming, so he can know what it’s going to look like, how much it’ll cost, what specific scenes will be shot on a given day, etc. I don’t imagine there’s a lot of improvisation happening on his sets.
Yes. The proper comparison (if you want to do that, and why would you bother?) is either Villaneuva’s Dune2 to the second half of Lynch’s Dune. Or Villaneuva’s potential Dune 3 to Lynch’s never made Dune 2.
Another man releases a floating dog which explodes in mid-air causing everyone to get small and lost in the fibers of the beautiful carpet.
I always liked the extended version of Dune. As a fan of the book the theatrical cut just eliminated too much so it just did not make sense.
Wait, the ‘Put the pick in there, Pete’ guy is meant to be Scytale? That is a huge deal! I thought Lynch just wanted to give every single profession a litany of their own. Like the Mentats with their ‘through will alone I set my mind in motion’. I assume the Guild Navigator with a mop in the intro was muttering his…
I know it didn’t turn out according to Lynch’s vision, but I wish he’d embrace it more. It’s a cult classic film and lots of people enjoyed it, and continue to, including myself.
Farscape is amazing. I doubt they could get the cast back, but I wouldn’t say no to Farscape: Next Generation.
I’ll be there for more BSG. I’m certainly not going to say no thanks. But the franchise I absolutely wish would be resurrected is Farscape (though I don’t consider it to have a failed execution). Easily my favorite space opera since the original Star Wars and its only good (great) sequel.
“masterful 2004 series” ...
Until the taxing agencies pull their collective heads out of their asses and start charging road tax by weight and mileage, vehicles will continue to get bigger and heavier.
even in excellent condition this thing is worth $1,500-$2,500
