For real. This election wasn’t won because more of Virginia became progressive. This election was won because centrist Republicans left the party to become centrist Democrats. It’s great that more progressives won, but that was a natural consequence of a state where we’re fucking fed up of Trump. But please…

It’s shouldn’t be so surprising that when you put forward a slate that’s nearly 50% women and approx. 1/4 minority and/or youth (i.e. people who have a stake in the process but aren’t old and white), that those people can WIN.

No one expected it because the Republicans had a 66-34 advantage. That’s a deficit that typically takes at least two elections to make up. No party had ever swung more than 10 seats in a single election in VA before yesterday. Sic Semper Tyrannis, bitches.

It’s 930 and I’m officially in the afterglow. This election was a statewide thrashing. Still waiting to see how the Delegates will sort out, but it will be much closer to an even split than anytime in the last 20 years. And “Homophobe in Chief” Bob Marshall got trounced by Danica Roem, a transgender woman. Just wow.
