I like this car exactly as it is (though I wouldn’t mind a coupe). I’m not sure how easy it will be to drop more weight from this platform, but if you’ve ever followed the Miata crowd, you’ll see how creative they are when it comes to weight reduction.

I highly doubt they’re putting an EJ motor in anything beyond the current WRX STI because they’re phasing that motor out. The EJ’s roots go waaaaay back, and it isn’t cost effective to adapt that motor when they’ve spent so much money on the development of the new FA motor. It’s all about efficiency and emissions.
