The 1998 Australian Open anecdote appears more an illustration of metagame than ability. When they aren't accustomed to playing one another outside of a mixed doubles match, being beaten only indicates that the men play a metagame that is able to defeat most women players. In Braasch's own words, the biggest keys were…
Wow, it's shocking how many videogame brodudes here don't understand why the challenges faced by women in competitive pro events necessitate the inclusion of female-only events and similarly why there is no need for a male-only event.
Because maybe I want to go to a LAN party without hearing the person next to me decrying that he was killed by a 'Pussy Whore Bitch'?
A male only tournament would be redundant. Can't you get your head around that?
I wouldn't call "we want to be like soccer where men and women don't' play in the same matches for physical reasons and video games are exactly the same" a legitimate reason.
You're making the point that women are physically weaker than men.
Thats like saying affirmative action is actually bad for blacks.
To use Hearthstone as an example, having more woman involved is good for the community. It's still growing, so the more people who can be involved in large events the better, and allowing more women to compete allows more people to be involved. It'll help the community and the game grow.
The trash talk you're thinking about, involves mentioning the word "pussy" at least twenty times. I've gone to the tournaments, i've won the tournaments, i've become a part of the FGC along with my friends; so don't you ever think I don't know what you're about. And yes, women need protection from monsters like you.
Why don't you go streak outside in the nude if you are that starved for attention?
I imagine they keep the women's only tournament so some women can compete without a bunch of dudes explaining loudly why they shouldn't have their own division.
I agree. I also think that, maybe, just maybe, having a separate womens' category is a good thing. Again, if I were a woman and I wanted to attend but I have the same amount of skill in those games as I do now as a man (very little), I would not want to be in the same pool as the kind of ruthless, oft misogynistic…
That phrase is stupid and you're stupid.
I feel you, but even if the women don't want to join, they should still be allowed to.
Devil's avocado here, Larry. If I were a woman competing in a video game tournament, I don't really think I would want to be in the same pool as the kind of gigantic assholes that seem to frequent them, not to mention the audience. The kind of stuff I've heard yelled during Twitch streams of fighting game tournaments…
I estimate that 99% of kotaku bloggers/readers have children. I don't have stats for that, but it's just a (crude) estimate.
Kill yourself.
But ask yourself: when was the last card that you saw and thought, "well that's going to be really great." It used to happen with some regularity; now, not so much.
im from Ireland. We will always have Thierry Henry dribbling the ball into the net in Paris like he was a Harlem globetrotters against us to top any refereeing decision. Then fifa said we were the "33rd team" at the finals to add insult.
