That is definitely my only concern for the networks. I believe (moreso HOPE) that the best shows could still get some private funding, but it's likely that the current model of 20something epsiodes from October to May could very well die with the networks themselves.

I think you're missing the point. I don't think he's saying the TV itself is being phased out, but the whole stranglehold the cable companies have over the medium. An HDMI cable or a WiDi-enabled computer still allows me to watch anything I download to my laptop on my TV screen. For free. No commercials.

TV networks are a medium for advertising, not for the "art" of the show. Nowadays, I can easily download/stream an episode of any show on my own time for free, without having to deal with commercials and all of the bullshit that comes with cable companies. 99% of cable TV is just trash anyways.
