I feel the need to amend this, it's been bothering me. I hope no people of color are offended by this, or feel like I'm coopting part of their experience, that's not my intent - it's a somewhat simplistic but effective metaphor.

As you say, it's irrelevant. It's kind of an athiest pascal's wager - if it brings meaning to your life, why not believe your senses?
Oh no! Really? A solipsist and a nihilist? How lonely. I assure you I'm entirely real, and I wouldn't have the hubris to doubt your realness. Are you an athiest trapped in the dark dead end of meaninglessness? I'm an athiest myself, it's not always easy. I have come to believe life does have a point - being Good…
As it happens, I'm predominantly of Norwegian ancestry myself. No wonder we're both so serious and stern.
That was a bit glib - I was referring to the American stereotype that Norwegians are all liberal and feminist. Your country treats women much better than mine does (US).
No, I'm saying you read Rand at 14, found justification for all your selfish impulses, and never gave it another thought. Do you know the term solipsism? It's a worldwide proble.
You're from NORWAY??!?!?!? Oh how disillusioning. Freya must be spinning in her grave.
Being called white doesn't carry any perjorative stigma. In fact historically, being called white has been a compliment and a state that's not easy to attain (see the one drop rule).
Lemme guess - Ayn Rand at 14 right?
Indeed I'm a card carrying marching flag burning Shulamith Firestone spouting feminist. I really can't see what you're talking about. These are mainstream feminist ideas, widely discussed, I'm not on my own here. From your picture I'm guessing you're a woman - if so I'd encourage you to do some reading on your own…
Ma'am and Miss are distinction based on alerting other men to whether a woman is "on the market" or "available". It removes a layer of privacy from a woman, and it defines women in relation to men as opposed to stand-alone human beings. The other terms are infantalizing and confining, IE "You can't smoke on the…
I don't think you'd say that about any other oppressed group in the world. They are responsible for their own oppression because they are weak? Man, I'm glad you don't run the world.
I often wonder if dismissing substantive discussion as trolling is a subtle form of trolling of it's own.
I can see you're a paragon of sensitivity and compassion.
I would honestly, truly love to be referred to as Woman My LastName, I've never thought of that, that'd be incredibly awesome. Can you see how powerful that is compared to Miss? That's the power of the word woman.
Please cite?
I agree humans are no better or worse than animals - in fact I often wonder if animals are better than humans. But when you dehumanize someone by using language that groups them with animals it becomes much easier to exploit and discriminate against them.
"Please, do tell what you believe makes a girl a woman." Hahahaha! What a classic derailment. No I'm not going to illustrate that for you, because it's not relevant to the conversation here. I'm sure Japan has an age of adult majority, as 21 is in the US. There is no ambiguity here. Females over the age of majority…
Yup totally. Wouldn't you rather be a woman in full than a girl, a lady, a female, a ma'am, a miss, almost any euphemism for woman is disempowering compared to the word woman itself.
Anyone who's defending calling women "females" are you also ok with calling Black people "blacks"? Isn't that ugly? Does it not strike you as a dehumanizing racist dogwhistle? "Female" is exactly the same thing for women. It's a term that strips women of their humanity, just as "blacks" does.
