Hitting a cop is sure to go down on that young lady's "Not My Best Choice" list. Seriously. Who does that?

I really don't think the book intends to do anything. I wouldn't presume to guess what the author's intentions were in writing it.
I said I liked the book. I'm not defending it. I wouldn't hold it as the be all end all of race relations treatises. I don't think I even came close to doing that.
Never said it did. I said her broad generalizations make her essay less than scholarly.
I didn't read the book. I should, though. Going now to put it on my library list.
The way I see it, all social injustice is my personal issue. I will continue to insist that people seek to do better. It's a personal quirk.
The Author: It's pretty simple: because these narratives allow white folks to feel good and satiates their guilt, while failing to challenge their racialized worldview.
Your comment is just as bad as the essay - you presume, because I'm white, that I feel guilty and then that I felt vindicated or right with the world because I felt the guilt. You are missing my point. I don't feel guilty. At all. I don't treat people poorly, so I don't carry guilt. I merely ask that the author…
Thank you for your completely condescending tone. And thank you also for missing the point of my comment. Not trying to derail her argument. Perhaps she is correct. Her argument loses steam due to glaring broad generalizations. But please, do jump on the fact I said I haz a sad because, of course, that's just…
Did you miss the part where I said there is a good way to be angry and inflammatory? I'm not against evoking those emotions. I am against evoking those emotions just for the sake of it. And NO ONE in response to my comment has any admonishment for the broad generalizations made about whites??? That's a simple…
Brian Williams showed this last night on NBC news - Puppycam and Brian Williams all on the same screen? Too much squee for this old heart.
Old movie that I loved when I was a kid: A Patch of Blue (1965) - stellar performances by Shelley Winters and Sidney Poitier - you'll get positive and negative in this one. Such a simple and beautiful message in the relationship between Gordon and Selina. I should, in fact, go back and revisit this movie to see…
This made me laugh and I only feel slightly chagrined.
I'm white. I liked the book, and not "because these narratives allow white folks to feel good and satiates their guilt, while failing to challenge their racialized worldview." or because "Stories like The Help allow white audience to feel like they are facing ‘the race problem,' without actually doing so." (I would…
Most. Perfect. Photo. Comment. Ever.
I'd like to kick Allen West in his nuts.
Yeah, I was initially duped by that, too. Keep dreaming (and doing) and so will I.
EXCELLENT!! And, yes, yes I would. The fellow in the screen capture looks a lot like a young Elvis. I laughed out loud at the part where they're waving the light sticks. And the backlit 2 on the hill shaking it - LOVE it. If I was Britney, I'd be positively delighted.
Yes. Another apology for getting caught. Keep trying, Mel. Or wait. Just shut up and sit down, you blew it.
Little porcupine HANDS!!! So adorable.
