Well, they are people. From what I understand they attempt to illegaly cross border with their kids. So the commit crime and they conciously put their kids in danger. Then they beg for help because they commited illegal act as as expected they have to pose consequences. So they are stupid, but still people/humans.

I am not sure, but I think on French border there’s no one to slap you in your face. At least there is no unformed guards on most European border crossings. So, THIS is simpler era.

Same here in Poland. It can be “thank you” or “I am sorry” in case I did something stupid - like cut in the queueu of waiting cars.
