The fact that in this day and age toyota can’t do so much as to design a simple shift gate to get from P to R to N to D without a J gate still blows my mind. It would be one thing if you were attempting to bang gears like an old B&M ratchet shifter, but it isn’t like there’s a 1, 2, 3 below that you can do that on.…
wuuuut?? how is this a thing? let alone from the factory?
I’d start with the 6.0 Navistar/Ford diesel pile. First problem is the lack of a proper number of head studs. This means that at any time your head gasket on a compression ignition engine is only seconds away from giving up the ghost and shitting compression and oil into the cooling system. The second problem is the…
knit line of the injection molded plastic. Poor mold flow analysis.
These really aren’t bad cars to live with, so many common parts with the golf and others that most of the underpinnings come pretty cheap. The rub comes in if/when you get any body damage. Parts are extremely rare in junk yards, and are very expensive if you can find them.
As somebody who has had to replace an engine harness on one of these vehicles due to mercedes soy based biodegradable wire coating, Crack pipe. This will be an electrical nightmare if it isn’t already.
Apparently it was!!!! “This item is temporarily back-ordered from our supplier. We have stock on order. To be notified via email when this item becomes available please add this item to a project.”
I saw one of these running around the Ann Arbor area the other day. The grill was missing, I can only assume it is because replacement parts are unobtanium. Crack pipe, all day.
Still my favorite penalty in LeMons racing. Dude saran wrapped to the top of the car running around the pits with a loud speaker saying, I am not a lawn mower, I am not a lawn mower, after their car had been off the track about 3-4 times in maybe 10 laps.
I ran with an open exhaust on my 3.2 DSG TT for a few weeks. Couldn’t wipe the shit eating grin off my face to save my life every time I got out of the car.
This is correct, the cam gears would slip in timing in relation to the rest of the cam. Solution to this was to TIG the gear right onto the cam.
The hardness of the base material of the tube, I don’t believe it’d wear at all well in the actual application as a cam lobe wearing surface.
There are even higher levels of asshattery in VW camshaft design. On some of their motors they just hydroformed cams. Basically they get hardened ground lobes with a hole drilled through the end for where the cam cylindrical portion would be. They then take a hollow tube and inflate it using hydraulic pressure to…
My X5 with air suspension does this from time to time. The air suspension will bleed down ever so slightly front vs. rear and set off the tilt level alarm. Go team!
Never before has going so slow, sounded so fast.
I have never had to modify a roof yet, but i have had to significantly alter seat tracks in three cars now. Always an enjoyable fab day in the garage.
Correct, but with the ratcheting down of limits on NOX there was also an appreciable decrease in the allowed number of particulate emissions, thus, whole new aftertreatment system.
the early ones were pre-EPA regs, they made moves to cut the NOX emissions. The later V10’s ended up getting DPFs, those would be the ones I’m interested in seeing if they pass.
1993 Sentra SE-R michigan its whole life. Took it to a track day at one point, had some go fast parts on it. Strapped on some gumball tires for the last session of the day. Got done with the day, went to pack the car up, had a very difficult time opening the passenger door. Once i got it open it saw a gaping seam on…
