You do recall how people were injured and killed by their own cars rolling over them a few years back because they couldn’t tell when these digital shifters were actually in park, right? I don’t think putting any extra buttons in a shifter that already doesn’t offer enough physical feedback is an acceptable solution…

Uuntil they use this as the basis for the new electric Escalade, and Tahoe, and Suburban, etc. This is a technology beta test they will put other models on top of (if it works out), the Jeep was the other way around.

In the picture from the lab, it looks more like a ceramic bottle than glass, your idea is still possible, but lead could be leached from the ceramic or the glazing on it instead.
