I’m not sure about the others, but there aren’t a lot of checks on the PotUS’ ability to order a nuclear strike. I believe they only need the assent of the Secretary of Defense, who they appoint and are free to fire at will.

We could have offered a negotiated surrender rather than demanding unconditional surrender. I imagine we would have if Japan had the capability to nuke a US city. That seems like a good incentive for countries to acquire nukes.

I’ve never understood why we split up rape and incest like that. When incest is deplorable it’s rape, and when it is consensual (as in no grooming or power imbalance - however rare that is) I don’t think it warrants that level of condemnation (especially if they aren’t having kids).

It seems extremely unlikely that a 30 year old rape case would be tried without physical evidence.

I agree that it will be very rare for enough evidence to make a strong case 30 years later. Therefore I think it would be very rare for prosecutors to pursue such charges.

Because it would require us throw out “beyond a reasonable doubt” as our standard of evidence.

I am very grateful that I never want kids. Vasectomy has given me a lot of peace of mind. Especially since my partner is staying on the pill for period prevention - odds of both failing at the same time are quite low.
