I thought Reach and First Strike were good. The Flood sucked, but that's what happens when you hand over your sci-fi franchise to William Dietz. He's ruined Halo, Starcraft, and Mass Effect, and I'm sure plenty of other franchises too.

Your description is spot-on for the newer Sonic games (read: just about everything past the Genesis era) but the Genesis-era Sonic games were definitely more of a platformer than just run-straight-hit-a-boost-thing-let-boost-thing-skip-half-the-level-for-you.

The library, god I so hate that level. Hundreds upon hundreds of unending aggressive enemies trying to kill you with guns, themselves and just sheer quantity.

While I agree that any significant angry reaction to this would be an overreaction, you can't just ignore the September 11th part. If it weren't for that, there wouldn't have been any notice of it and the connection is very obvious with it.
