How safe is this thing? Do you have to wear a helmet? Since this would be classified as a motorcycle, it doesn’t need to comply to any crash standards.  Do I need a motorcycle license to drive this thing?

It is not surprising at all. I know of someone who bought the A3 E-tron and was completely oblivious that it was a PHEV. This individual thought it was a normal run of the mill Hybrid and that it doesn’t need to be plug in. I had to show her that the plug was behind the Audi badge.
