The alpha this last weekend was pretty legit but it was obvious it needs some more work.
I think they've kind of relaxed on that. One of the big production studios for DOTA2 has a weekly show when they talk with players and stuff and Twitch sponsors the. Granted this is game related but they also streamed the International 4 after party music sets.
Valve gives the money directly to the players and lets them handle any fees they have. Don't believe that is standard but that's how Valve handles it at least.
