Oh come on you stereotype! With the introduction of the 'new' Citroen C5 Citroen has only gone uphill since, and some models even use BMW's engines. The French cars braking down is sooo <1980. Only Italian cars do that nowadays.

They are smaller in size, and have not as many moving parts as an inline engine, which could make it cheaper to produce. Also, they don't suffer as much from power loss as Inlines do.
