My wife and I often turn on the caption at night when our kid is bed so we can keep the volume on the television down. Although it doesn’t “bother” me as such, I find myself watching the captions instead of watching the show, even if I can hear the dialog. I tend to lose the visual pleasure of watching television…

The captions really bother me. I find them very distracting. If I went to a movie in the theater and the captions were on, I might ask at the ticket window for a raincheck. I hate having captions on along with the sound when someone in a group (who does not have a hearing impairment) asks for it. I am distracted from the film’s visuals and constantly trying NOT to read the captions. But, if there is someone hearing impaired, I do not begrudge them the captions. I can totally deal.
