Unless it’s a grizzly...then act dead and hope it doesn’t kill you.

It doesn’t snow like this where you live, does it?  We were all pretty appreciative of the plow gangs last Wednesday. Come drive on a road with 4-6” snow ruts and then let everybody know what you think.

I’ll second this. My old Jeep XJ went through a hailstorm that toasted the roof of my house without leaving a single dent on the Jeep. The hood alone on that thing must weigh about 40-50 lbs where a modern one of aluminum or light steel would seem half that weight.

This is nothing new to Porsche owners. Even on a relatively simple ‘87 Carrera the first step to everything? Drop engine. Clutch job? Drop engine. Bad oil leak?  Drop engine. Oil pressure sensor failed......?  Partially drop engine. You get the picture...

Agreed. H6 and boxers are intrinsically different and sound very different. Air cooled Porsche’s have that raspy angry mechanical bulldog sound to them...Subies have a nice bubbly low end. Both pretty, but different.

The optional aluminum dash panels on the SR1s made it look even sexier and more fighter plane like.

Nothing but the essentials...

I live in Minneapolis and drive a Jeep XJ with lift and lockers. I always laugh a little when Captain Suburbia comes flying past me in the inside lane in his Honda Pilot with the all seasons. You’d think you’d try and go a little slower than the cautious off-road rig, wouldn’t you? But nope...never fails.

A few thoughts from a marketer/dad of a remarkably verbal and crafty 11 mo old (who already rebels quite a bit...):

Oh yeah - still the tradition. I always feel like a vulture standing back there watching people eat. And you absolutely wait your turn...you’ll get yelled at by the cooks if you try to grab a seat that opened up in front of you and somebody has been waiting longer.  Be prepared to pick up your meal and move down a

Our now 9mo old started listening to Foo Fighters in utero. We noticed that “Everlong” had a calming effect on him. He also seems to chill out with Notorious B.I.G.’s “Big Poppa”. Favorites that garner random arm waving and dancing now include Miike Snow’s “My Trigger” and “Genghis Khan”, as well as Foster the

Agreed - but if you plan to go to Al’s in the winter, dress REALLY warm (like parka, hat, gloves, good socks, etc)...you could be standing outside for a while waiting for a seat.

Used to think this until I parked a customers E Type I was working on with only the parking brake - it was strong enough to hold it for a moment or two and then started graaaaadualluy rolling. I’ve also seen parking brake cables snap under tension on older cars before. Gears generally don’t snap. Bottom line, putting

I hereby give you the third category of backseats...neither comfortable, nor bench (nor particularly functional...)

This is really typical of running tech-focused project management in a heavy-manufacturing company. I co-lead an Industrial IoT team for a heavy manufacturing company and it’s a HUGE shift in expectations to be nimble, creative, iterate and rapid develop when everyone else is expecting predictable performance and a

Oh no, don’t recommend a WJ to the poor man! With the HVAC blend door defect on those things, it would just bring the bullshit steaming hotbox/bullshit frozen tundra on the road with him!

Does anyone see all of this as a potential boon for Tesla in particular?  US-based production, imported materials that largely fall outside the main tariff classes, and declining domestic offerings of anything...interesting...by US automakers?  Seems like a perfect market opportunity.  Thoughts?

Noted, but how about a guy in his early 30s maintaining an old 911 that he saved since 11 years old to buy? Lots of guys like me get hit by this too. Every part for my car just went up 25%+. And that’s assuming there aren’t retaliatory measures. This is just dumb.

David - it isn’t your Jeeps, it’s the poseurs in dealer-built, over-priced JKs who don’t get it...it’s a community, not a competition. Here’s looking at you man, and you’ll always get a wave from this Jeeper.

Dude, seriously? That’s pretty good for an XJ. Mine showed up with a 10" wide Flintstones hole in the passenger floorboard and I was ok with that.
