Well, in fairness, it also practically invented the industry in its own right. By your definition, the first to market for any industry is automatically a monopoly, especially when no one else even WANTS to try to compete.

It was more a comment on the “accuracy” of “reporting.” There’s no sense scaring the shit out of people with misinformation. I mean, it’s profitable, but a shitty thing to do.

He “Broke” the story initially, so he’s going to be extra-fluff on this issue. Expect lots of blustering and inflammatory language. If this story were broken by someone else, you would see a much more measured response. This is why Kotaku is a blog and not a news site.

A monopoly implies no competition, no other option. GOG, Origin, Amazon, et. al. currently exist. Calling Steam a monopoly only shows you don’t know what that word actually means.
