Ad music: just go classic "RUNNING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND, GOT PLACES TO GO AND TO FOLLOW MY RAINBOW!"

Sonic looks fucked up, but that’s not even the worst part.

I have a hard time believing anybody asked for this movie.

I could be wrong.

The CGI design of Sonic is merely one of numerous problems with the trailer (and the film itself):

It actually much more likely that the original designs looked like the ‘fix’ you saw, but were rejected by those in charge for insanely stupid reasons.

If you’re main CGI character looks like a man in his kid brother’s Sonic PJs, then it was bad design.

I wonder if they pull a GI Joe 2 and just delay the hell out of it at the last second.

That’s nuts. It’s not as though the Catholic clergy even plays video games. HEY-OH!

I’m 90% certain they’re only going to be changing the face.  Like there’s no easy way to fix the body without re-doing animation.  That would set them back a year.  There’s no way.

I appreciate them going back and trying to improve it, but those poor FX artists...

No no, they had a focus group. The problem is that the focus group was full of 40 year old men with a... Shall we say, questionable preference for muscular pre-pubescent bodies.

“Nah, we don’t need to do any focus groups.” — some studio executive who is cleaning out their office right now.

Judging by the craptastic design of the blue monster and weird music they used in the trailer, it’s a garbage fire.

Sega: Let’s update Sonic’s look for the movie
The Internet:  *hates it*
Sega:

Going by the trailer, I don’t think anyone’s confident that the story will be any good.

Well if they have to render his scenes over again how about rewriting his dialog and recasting him.

I sorta wish they hadn’t cracked. I didn’t think the design was bad per se. But it didn’t feel like it was an inspired design either. Just... generic. This makes me feel like the director isn’t confident that the story being told is any good.

And knowing what big companies are like

I dont think I’ve ever seen this happen to a movie before.  Like... Has it happened before?  This’ll take a long time to fix.  It’s not like a quick copy paste.  Re-design, model, rig, and hope the animation is salvageable.  Otherwise re-do that too.  Then the rendering and compositing is gonna take months.  Like..

How in the hell did they think it was a good design, it objectively looks horrendous. Crazy how a person working alone from home was able to make the design look way more faithful to the original than the “professionals” payed to work on the movie.

nah, the people at the top that make the decisions that led to the teeth rabbit are just that stupid and out of touch.
