Agreed. That voice-over is an embarrassment to the book and the potential of this film. Even the music turned cliche when the voice-over came in. Ugh...

argh, this is a terrible preview. the actors look good, and i absolutely loved the book, but what is the voiceover for? why is everything awful and cliché as hell? did they get rid of the whole narrative device that made the book interesting at first?
Yes, but the difference is Scientology's is performed at every level and approved of at every level of the church. It isn't a few (or even a lot) of wackos doing bad things and it getting covered up. It's encouraged and required. It would be like if the Pope secretly mandated that all priests molest children and then…
The Magdalene Laundries was the 20th century dumbass.
BWAHAHAHAAH!!! WWAOTD is my new favorite abbreviation.
Oh, but I will now! I have a little running list in my head of "People Whose Careers I Do Not Support". Some additions were harder than others—Giovanni Ribisi's work I used to enjoy, for example, but Tom Cruise's turds are easy to step around. Juliette Lewis was tough, but Zenu can have Jenna Elfman. It equals out in…
When I first came to Minneapolis for college, I used to go for long walks. It was a good way to get out and explore this strange new city I was in. There was a Scientology center downtown, right on the main street. I'd never heard of the group at the time. After a series of brutal classes that left one friend and I…
Not only telling them, but telling them on camera. I have no idea what leaders tell people like Tom Cruise to convince them to do such an incriminating and career-damaging thing, but it just shows how powerful the brainwashing is.
In the UK the emphasis was on Meredith but there was a huge amount of demonisation of Knox. That being said I had tonnes of arguments here from insane Americans screaming about this being evidence about why they would never go abroad.
I have no opinion on Knox's innocence in this matter. As far as I can see the Italian police made such a mess of the case its impossible to tell what happened. What really annoys me about the whole thing is that everyone forgets about Meridith Kercher. The trial and media focus should never have been focused on…
When I was in university I remember reading an account of a sociologist who went "undercover" as a pretend-scientologist so he could do field work on the organization. When they found his journal (I'm assuming it was less that he left it in the bathroom and more that they were going through his stuff) there was a this…
Oh my God, do they over. So obedient. "Hmm...become a human hood ornament on a DeVille or be fourteen milliseconds late for my FLAG bus? WWAOTD (What Would An Operating Thetan Do)?"
Then do not read this Wikipedia article on famous Scientologists!
I call Lamar's story BS. Throwing him under the bus to save their name in the press is just low. His only addiction is women. Dude was not ready to be tied down. They dated less than a month before they got married. They shd deal with their nonsense instead of calling it something else.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! NNot my favorite Bartlett daughter/Don Draper protege!?!?
Yeah,....NO.
The difference between a cult and a religion is that you can choose to join/leave a religion and they won't stalk you or harrass you to try to change your mind into staying.
I know a few religious nuts, but the crazy ones are all from my hick hometown and left high school at around the time they got (or got someone) pregnant at 15. Since then, I have known some highly religious people, but none have crossed the line into completely nutty. I.e. none are Scientologists.
My automatic reaction is to dislike everyone who attended that party. Does that make me a bad person?
Oh man. I am having a really, really hard time keeping track of all the different types of bigots. At first I was like, "Jeeze, why are they so against Israel? I thought most Republican-types (Canadian here!) were pro-Israel, anti-Palestine/Middle East."
Don't mistake the current residents of the town as members of this guy's colony of hatred - http://www.inforum.com/event/article/…
