It’s not difficult to feel bad for the woman at the center of the story (who’s been separated from her child) without condoning her actions or ignoring the fact that other passengers were greatly inconvenienced/put at risk.

Yeah, let’s have sympathy for the pathologically selfish woman.

My thought was that she was planning to give birth in The United States and not on the plane. She might have gone into labor early, though, and asked about airspace because she didn’t want to speak up until it was safe to do so. If anything, I’m concerned that she kept her labor quiet until she was sure.
