Wow, someone had a bad experience with F&I. Average time in the box if someone didn't want coverage (which all they have to say is no) is 25 minutes. Even if you are doing a cash deal you have to see the same finance manager and sign the same papers (except for 2 pieces of paper, OH GOD). Please don't act like all the

Nope. That won't matter to a salesman at all. The managers? At end of month yes, otherwise not usually. The salesman only makes money on the "front end" meaning the gross profit between what we own the car for and the selling price. We get a small percentage of back end as a bonus if we sell so many units but it's an

If you believe that outside financing is always better, you got duped my friend...

No shit dude. I've done F&I. You just talked around the fact that you're wrong. You just explained the way it works. We still get discounted rates and have a better shot at hanging the paper with sub-prime. Alot of lenders wont let you keep points they just pay a 1-4% flat reserve. Good try tho.

Then you (or whoever did it there) were one EXTREMELY shitty finance manager. Banks discount rates for bigger dealerships just due to the sheer amount of business we do with them. Now that doesn't mean we are always cheaper either, but you saying it's "always cheaper" is just flat out wrong.

You could do that, except some banks give you fees if you pay off early. There is no motivation to you for financing vs cash sale as far as savings (unless the interest rate you make on the money in your savings account is greater than what you pay for the car). What I (and all the other people making this point) was

Thanks man!

My last suggestion is that people think that being able to walk away is your best tool to get a good price. The way to get a car for rock-bottom price is not to ask what the lowest I can go is. It won't get you anywhere.

There were quite a few 2011 model cars that were legitimately worth MORE used than new. Doesn't make too much sense, other than supply and demand.

THANK YOU!!!!!! I absolutely hate when people say, "Since I'm paying cash I should get a discount." I straight up tell them, we make less money on that so it's not a negotiating tool. They usually don't like it, but I'm not going to lie to them.

The biggest misconceptions I get as a career car salesman are two-fold.

ME!!!

The owner of this must have a mullet and wear his pants below his knees.

Well he probly lifted mid-turn. Why else would he be in such a predicament?

Suspects include this guy.

It just looks like an Italian version of this.

Who knew all it took was an interceptor badge and a laptop to make this actually true?
