I see it isn't just one VW model. One of my mother's friends had a Turbo Beetle that faced a similar issue. The oil pans also hang precariously low on these cars: this I learned while working at a quick lube station years ago.

I found my foxbody in News On Wheels' website. There is also a print version, but I use the website. I guess you can file it under regional, since it serves South Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
