A few years ago a couple of guys in South Carolina got in a little bit of trouble for being more than just friends with their pet goat, which they had named Bailey in "honor" of the character played by Debby Ryan in her previous Disney Channel show. Can't look at the poor girl without remembering that unfortunate

I wish I knew more about what a broad cross-section of NFL players actually thought about all this mess, but that ESPN survey is garbage that can't be used as evidence of anything.

Meanwhile in Wisconsin, with the national debate swirling about the use of the name 'Redskins' , the Republican-controlled Legislature has passed a bill to actively encourage high schools to go back to using Native American names, mascots and imagery which had previously been dropped in response to complaints.

I'm a big college football fan, and a fan of neither the Vikes nor the Redskins, and yet I have some sort of morbid impulse which is pushing me to switch over from Baylor/OU.

Great story. You'll probably remember that conversation forever. Had a similar experience with a WW2 submariner on a flight about 15 years ago.

Bradley had a nice game winner for Roma today in his first action since the nasty ankle injury he incurred in the warmups at the Costa Rica WC qualifier.

13 for 29 speaks for itself, right? Right? (Conveniently ignore the 3 TD/ 0 INT and the fact that he doesn't play defense.)

It's Passing, Rushing, Recieving leaders for the day. And yes, Pryor is the day's leading rusher with 1 carry.

You can take this chart to another level. Just from GB's perspective, Boykin was only on the field because Randle Cobb has a broken leg. One of the linemen was only on the field because Bruan Bulaga has a torn ACL. It's likely Andrew Quarless was only on the field because GB is forced to go to multiple TEs because

As god is my witness, and as some have been discussing at the Wisconsin Scout Board, the numbers I posted above were at the Sagarin site until today. Don't have a screen grab, but the numbers were at least posted as I have stated. Very odd.

There appear to be some shenanigans or at least some bad info then. The light green Pure ELO numbers are what the BCS is supposed to be using per the statement right on that page. When you look at those numbers, Bethune Cookman is 4. Coastal Carolina is 10. North Dakota St is 12. Fordham is 7. Lehigh is 21. Tenn

Because the BCS doesn't allow the use of margin-of-victory in the computer ranking formulas, there are 7 FCS teams in the top 25 of the Sagarin rating component used to determine the BCS calculation. Seriously.

If you like laws and kebabs, don't go to the Values Voters Summit.

Excellent piece. I'm largely in agreement with the view that players should be able to maintain their medical privacy, but no matter how this is handled we still have to confront the fact that the simple possession of such information is itself a valuable commodity for the holder of the info and there are people out

That was brutal, but you have to tip a hat to the US guys never giving up. I knew our Icelander was gonna score that final dagger when he got left alone at the top of the box. No idea what Panama was doing running 3 guys up the field on counters with the lead.

Is anyone else as astounded by how quickly many football fans have gone from glorifying big hits to becoming whiners begging for flags anytime anything looks remotely close to violent? If this culture can shift so abruptly, what else can?

Beaten like a redheaded, uh . . . . rented mule.

Challenge a Cajun to a drinking contest

Tannen stole the goddamn Delorean again.

Dear God, it's only the end of Week 5 in the NFL and yet it seems like the NFC playoff picture is almost set. Saints, Seahawks, Niners, the top two teams from the North and whoever ends up winning 7 games in the East.
