I was seriously wondering how small Switch games would have to be (GB-wise) until I remembered how much digital storage has advanced in the past five or ten years. I still have memory cards almost as big as a credit card with like 20 MB of space, and that was huge.

“What If?” is awesome. It’s by the guy who wrote XKCD, and he examines all these really cool hypothetical scenarios (such as, what if a pitcher threw a ball at the speed of light, or could everyone on earth, grouped together, light up the moon with laser pointers?) and gives detailed physics-based examinations without

You’re absolutely right, and I hope that’s why you’re not going to buy the Switch. After all, there’s plenty of really great games on the Wii! What’s 480p output anyway if it’s a quality game? And that’s if we’re spoiling ourselves. As you said, tech specs are just fluff!

I don’t disagree with you, but honestly that’s a really slimy practice (and, whether Nintendo realizes it or not, their IP is what sells their consoles regardless of whatever expensive gimmick they’ve wasted money on now). I fully support any author who’s calling Nintendo out for it because it’s just so blatantly

Because some people like to know more about what they’re considering buying. There’s less than a month to go, and we know how the console looks, a handful of games, that Zelda now has a season pass and that online costs money.

Their website for it is horrible and way too confusing to use (or, at least on mobile). I’m not sure why a website even had to get involved.

Agreed. In the second one, “but muh Katie and her zombrex!!!” was so goddamn annoying that I used a timescaling mod to limit the game to 1:1 real world minutes to dead rising 2 minutes. End result? I explored more, played with more weapons, and felt like a kid in a gory candystore.

I really wish I knew more about the industry to explain that, but it could be as simple as higher resolution textures being used for the Switch. They likely worked with source textures that they had to downgrade or compress for the 3ds, and then even more for the older gen 3ds. Also, all that extra development time

Or we could consider Sm4sh 3DS and Sm4sh Wii U, where they were made similarly but with smart limitations/features based on hardware limitations.

Damn man, this comment was 2 years old. How’d you find it?

To date the only one I didn’t see follow this trend was Rage. It gives you an outfit (that combines all of the bonuses of the three in the base game), two weapons (when there are 9 in the base game!) and a vehicle (when I think there are only 2 vanilla) .

Which meant something back then, sure. Nintendo isn’t doing so great - in fact the CEO took a voluntary pay cut as an act of shame. Their stock rose recently because of Pokemon Go, not because of anything they did.

The point I was trying to make, though, is that Nintendo’s IPs are good enough that they don’t have to resort to gimmicks. Nobody I know bought a 3DS because they thought “oo wow I want to see games in 3D!!” - it was because they wanted to play the newest Pokemon, or Animal Crossing, or any of the incredible IPs they

I feel like I’m in the minority here, but I really think that’s a stupid move.

I rarely post, but Half-Life 2 is honestly my favorite game of all time. Part of it is the game itself, another part is the visceral memories that I have of just exploring the absolutely fantastic game world that they constructed.

You included a screenshot that said "we need more hot girls like rek'sai." I think that might have gone over your head - Rek'sai is literally a giant purple tunneling monster with no eyes.

Bought a Wii U for Sm4sh and Hyrule Warriors.

This was a great read. Thanks for sharing.

Do you maybe wanna, y’know, not throw out frontpage spoilers for people who haven’t been able to see the Direct yet?

Serious question...why does this comic get posted every week if it never has a punchline?
