I think it was a different kind of fine, and GM may still be facing one after the settlements, but Toyota paid 1.2 billion for the gas pedal “scandel”, in which no one died. The 6 people that died as a result of piling floor mats were not included in that case.
Better than nearly killing someone. It’s your duty to keep a safe following distance in case shit happens. Say the car in front hit a blown out tire and slowed down suddenly, the car behind would have been in its rear seating area before you know it. Where it’s possible (not likely) occupants are.
I don’t need to comment, JimZ speaks for me. Go JimZ
I get sad just thinking about it, I too have been waiting forever for that to get finished. Such a cool project, such a screw around trying to get everything in.
One tip for working on brake line fittings: give it a little tighten before you try to loosen it. They are like pipe fittings, the entire fitting tightens when the threads bind. So if you just push it a little past that point the whole thing will loosen. I was a skeptic until I tried it, haven’t rounded a fitting in…
Turbo 3??!! That’s friggin awesome. European engine? I didn’t knows they put turbos in their mini, I thought it was still all superchargers. I find the car a bit heavy, but I bet a small turbo engine would suit it perfectly. The more you know.
I really like the engine, and car in general, but their faults can be glaring. I hear the newer ones are better all around, and I hope I can drive one someday.
Maybe I would believe that, maybe, if I didn’t have a mini with a broken transmission right now. Maybe, if I could find a transmission for it instead of all the scrappers telling me the broken transmission is the reason they have the car. Maybe, if I could find internal parts for the gearbox to rebuild it. Maybe, if…
They stopped using Wheatlands gearboxes in 06. They are known for their failures and you can’t get parts for them or get them rebuilt. The S’s always had Getrag’s and non S’s got them after 06.
That’s an oddly specific time that you figure people will be charging their cars. Technically your limited by the current and voltage of your house, but say your using your full 240v and 60 out of 100 amps your house is supplied with you can move 14.4 kW, so it would take 2.3 hrs to supply 40kwh. Most chargers are…
All I have to say is
Most people that own a car sleep in a house. Perhaps the same house every night. Those houses generally have provisions for electricity.
I’m an electrician, power for superchargers is abundant and easy to get to, its nothing like supplying fuel and support for pumps. And permits and wire is really a low cost, simple project, hardly worth mentioning.
Well you don’t have to install a pump and well in the ground to make a parking spot a charging spot, so there’s that. And if/when I get an electric car I will charge it all slow like at home and only use superchargers on the road, as they are sort of intended. Not many people drive over 200 miles every day.
I have yet to find a car with that level of engineering, I consider the 88-91 Civic essentially the pinnacle of cost based engineering, They have double wishbones, front and back, can comfortably seat 4 adults, most rev to 7000, the computers have military style redundancies built into them, and the drivetrains are…
I think its important to note that all American cars were shit in the 70's. Reliability was considered amazing when a car made it to 80,000 miles. Brand new cars leaked oil and rattled and squeaked, nothing was ever sorted. The fact they are driving a car from 1976 speaks volumes to how well some of the parts were…
Granted, and
Meh, I’m familiar enough with classic versions of both to know they share more than basic shape. Seating position, control layout, mechanical layout, frunk, everything in a 911 is a refined version of the Beetle. It is literally the revolutionary step 911 haters feel the 911 lacks.
That’s like saying a circle dosn’t look like a squircle. As much as you may want to argue against it, there is as much argument for it. If you can’t see how a 911 and Beetle are similar than compare the 911 to a pickup truck, or a fiat 500, or a early Audi, when you look back at the Beetle it will suddenly look a…
