You’re misunderstand why surgeons wear surgical masks. They do so so they don’t expel anything from their mouth into an open body cavity during surgery. If YOU’RE sick, it thus makes sense to wear one so as to not transmit. But wearing a mask, unless it’s a N95, won’t do much to protect the wearer.
