No way they cast an actual plain chubby girl as Piggy.

Thing is, Lord of the Flies was a response to a particular conceit of British pulp novels which depicted young boys/men being stranded as a fun adventure with little internal conflict. Golding took the subject of entitled British boarding school boys and the kind of savagery he saw in how they acted with each other

Is there any way to REALLY not see a movie? Something beyond just not seeing it? I want to do that.

The only way this could not be completely awful is if it were an exact recreation of the original story but gender swapped, because that would tell us some interesting things about how we perceive violence and gender. Anything else is going to be a stereotyped mess.

I mean, it’s shitty all around. It’s shitty for assholes at tabloids to speculate or outright lie about someone’s gender identity. But it’s also shitty to try to claim that being called transgender is insulting. So, I dunno. Don’t root for anyone. Drink some whiskey and gird your loins for tomorrow, whatever fresh

There needs to be about 60% more crazy talk in there for this to be counted as a legitimate internet post.

I’m so sad that Hillary lost and we don’t get to have a Taco Truck on every corner. That was the best Trump promise ever :(

Related: I can’t bring mapo tofu to a potluck without spending the whole time guarding it from vegetarians (it has pork in it).

I wish New York Times writers would at least pretend to have some sense of proportion. Yes, you can find a couple of college students who think hoop earrings are appropriation and are loud about it on the internet. You can also find college students tweeting loudly about how Ivanka Trump is a fashion icon, or how

Bargain bin Benedict Cumberbatch ass

This is the best indictment of Evangelical theological viewpoint of “I’m a good person if I think I’m a good person but don’t need to do good things to be a good person.”

I usually watch CBS This Morning (Charlie Rose 4 LYFE) while getting ready to work, but I caught the Today Show a day or two before the eclipse, and Megyn had joined Lauer, Guthrie and everyone else at the main desk. They were jabbing about the eclipse, and Megyn started talking about how no one really cares about the

Wow, I had no idea MSNBC was doing so well against Fox News. A quick check on Drudge Report shows he’s no longer listing ratings. I wonder why!

Is Megyn Kelly’s problem that she can’t connect to women, or that she can’t connect to people who are uncomfortable with race-baiting?

That’s the fake news. Can’t obstruct a nominee that hasn’t been nominated.

I think Trump is concerned with undoing anything Obama did, no matter the merits. GOP have that on their agenda as well, but they are more focused on dismantling anything the government created to help people

Arpaio prooooobably shouldn’t be making any plans. His pardon is an admission of guilt which can (and should!) be used against him in a civil trial.

Yes. Yes, he does.

He’s 85 and obese. Pretty sure he’ll die of a heart attack before the primaries.

I had to think long and hard about which “Nope” gif best captured my response to this. I’m going with this one:
